Let's face it, the Big Apple is the mother of all cities.
From Manhattan's Fifth Avenue to the boardwalk of Coney Island, the city oozes its own personality, precisely magical for being composed of seemingly disparate elements. Out of a range of ethnic groups has come on of the most revered and celebrated aspects of city life. Food, food and more food, in all its wonderful, delightful, traditional and original incarnations. What else can you expect from the myriad nationalities who have brought recipes and culinary skills from the far corners of the world and then adapted old dishes and cultural favorites in ways which have made them synonymous with the city itself. The world's first pizza shop, Lombardi's, was a New York Restaurant opened in 1905 in Little Italy. Bagels have become a staple of city life, especially loved with lox and cream cheese. Of course, the city lends its name to the most delicious versions of cheesecake, a speciality of one or two of the most renowned, landmark New York Restaurants. Presuming you can get someone to slow down for a second, they're bound to be able to point you in the direction of their favorite deli for that lunchtime institution of pastrami on rye. From the wonders and surprises which lay in wait in the New York Restaurants in and around Chinatown, to the traditional diners and the slew of burger places for the cognoscente, there is some tasty morsel to suit every mood and whim. Though New York Restaurants are not reserved to those which feed the hunger of tradition, it is, after all, a city which entices and homes many of the globe's most influential and renowned people, from the celebrated individuals within the realms of art and music, to the luminaries of film, literature and even the stand-up comedy scene, not to forget the Wall Street elite and those engaged in politics. Dotted around the city, between the collection of delis, bakeries and hotdog stands can be found the world's hardest working culinary geniuses. Each striving to bring the savvy denizens food worthy of falling under the banner, New York Restaurant. From Manhattan's chic and exclusive eateries which require at least a month's advance booking, to those which create an ambiance of innovation and offer up gastronomy which is to be found nowhere else, there are some exceptional places to appease adventurous and trained taste buds. Eating out is as much a part of city life as taking a cab, whether meeting for cocktails with the jet set before heading to the corner bistro or heading uptown to savor the latest in gastronomy, it's likely to be less a special occasion than a matter of routine. The Big Apple's eaters are not easily duped. Excellence is just a part of the city's subtle magic. Yesterday's bread won't sell and those who know their pizza will accept no plastic substitute, which is not to say that you can't sample a bit from everywhere. For true foodies it is paradise on earth, so take a bite of the Big Apple, indulge your stomachs every request, a bagel for breakfast, a burger for lunch and duck confit for dinner and all you'll have to worry about is where to eat on Tuesday. |
